Del Ibn Sheick Umar Ibrahim, the National Communication & Director of Operations for the NDC Greater Accra Youth Wing, has stated that the celebrations surrounding the appointment of new government officials are normal, but excessive displays beyond the first day would be concerning.
Speaking in an interview with Kpekpo Maxwell Justice (KMJ) on Joy News, monitored by MyNewsGh, he emphasized that most appointees are experiencing government appointments for the first time, and it is natural for their friends and family to share in the moment.
“I mean, certainly, you’re going to have some friends and family come around, and people would want to escort you. Maybe take a few videos just so it will be an archive for you some years to come,” he explained.
However, he cautioned that such gestures should not turn into a long-term culture of fanfare instead of work.
“What would be heartbreaking and very disheartening is if this continues. If after one week, we’re still seeing new videos coming out with people chilling in offices, then we will all be alarmed,” he stressed.
He further emphasized that the mandate given to the NDC administration must be fulfilled through hard work, and appointees must focus on their responsibilities.
“Each and every one of us needs to make sure that the president succeeds, especially the young ones. If you don’t do what you’re supposed to do, you will quickly go because there are many people in the queue,” he warned.
According to him, the new administration is filled with young, capable individuals, and appointees must take their work seriously to avoid reshuffling.
“It’s just a first-day wonder. If we see day two, day three, and it continues for a week, KMJ, we will talk about it,” he concluded.
