Emergency sitting was fruitful – Dep Majority Chief Whip

Deputy Majority Chief Whip, Habib Iddrisu believes the decision to reconvene Parliament has been fruitful.

He clarified that contrary to reports that Parliament was reconvened to address three critical issues, there were four critical issues, contrary to claims that only three were on the agenda.

Habib Mustapha made this known when he spoke on Accra-based Joy News on Wednesday, September 4, 2024.

The issues addressed by Parliament included a $250 million International Development Association (IDA) loan agreement with the World Bank to support the financial sector, as well as financial sector and energy sector recovery plans.

The agenda also covered tax exemptions under the One District, One Factory (1D1F) initiative and urgent legislative work on key bills, including the Environmental Protection Bill 2024 and the Social Protection Bill 2024.

While emphasizing the legislative work done within 48 hours, he said “Think it’s worth it. A lot has been achieved, no matter how little it is”.

Habib Iddrisu was appreciative of the bills which were addressed during the emergency sitting indicating that they made headway with some loans that had come under contention before Parliament went on recess.
