Bosome Freho: Four sustain gunshot wounds in violent clash at Danso Community Mining site

At least four people have been injured in gunfire exchange at the Danso community mining site in the Bosome Freho District of the Ashanti Region.

This incident is the latest in a series of confrontations between local youths and site security.

According to the DCE for Bosome Freho, Kofi Adu Amoateng the trouble began when unidentified men attacked the security personnel at the mining site.

This was after some youths from Nsuaem Number 1 and Danso invaded the community mining site in search of gold despite a ban on mining activities on Tuesdays.

Tensions however reignited between them, culminating in a violent altercation where one person was stabbed.

“And so the police had gone there and arrested some youths in connection with the incident. But some of the youth later went [to the mining site] and also attacked officials there including some Chinese who were providing technical assistance at the mine”, the DCE narrated.

“My information is that there was an exchange of gunshots and some of the youth sustained gun wounds,” he added.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident to prevent further violence and ensure the safety of the community.

“Now that there’s calm we will be holding a District Security Council meeting on Monday to discuss this issue and see how best we can resolve it. We have also maintained the presence of the police to prevent any further damage”, the DCE said.
