Police deny forcing accused persons to re-enact protest at 37 intersection

The Ghana Police Service has denied forcing some accused persons involved in the ‘Democracy Hub‘ street protest to re-enact their activities during the protest at the 37 intersection.

Lawyers of the accused persons in a statement shared on social media had alleged that the police made their clients to re-enact the protest at the 37 intersection.

However, a statement issued by the police on Monday (7 October) explained the accused were voluntarily taken through crime scene reconstruction in line with established procedures.

”The Ghana Police Service has taken notice of a statement allegedly issued by the lawyers of the accused persons standing trial for their conduct during the democracy hub demonstration, claiming that the Police forced their clients to re-enact the protest at the 37 Intersection,’ it said.

”We wish to state that this is untrue and the facts are as follows: a. Crime scene reconstruction, as part of an investigation, is a standard practice used by law enforcement agencies worldwide and is in full compliance with our established procedures. The Ghana Police Service has been using this practice since time immemorial,” the statement added.
