Ablakwa clarifies allegations of state land acquisition by Akufo-Addo’s daughters

During his vetting for the position of Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa was confronted with questions regarding his earlier allegations that two daughters of President Nana Akufo-Addo had acquired state lands.

The query sought clarification on his December 2024 post, in which he had claimed to possess “unimpeachable evidence” from the Lands Commission, showing that the president’s daughters had purchased state-owned land.

Ablakwa responded: “I supported the article with evidence from the Lands Commission. I attached an official search that I had conducted on those two lands in Somam, and the response I received from the Lands Commission indicated that all those lands are government lands.”

He further clarified that his post was a question based on the “empirical evidence” he had received, asking, “Is this another state capture? Is President Akufo-Addo allocating state lands to his daughters?”

Despite the chairman’s suggestion that the land was not state property and had been acquired by the estate of the late Justice Johnson S. A, a former Supreme Court Justice, Ablakwa firmly stood by his stance.

“There is really no need to apologize on this matter,” he said. “We need to be discussing reforming the Lands Commission. If you think the Lands Commission misled me, you need to join us with ideas on how to reform the commission and ensure their data is more accurate.”
