Ablakwa announces GHc100k emergency fund  for victims of Akosombo dam spillage

 Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament(MP) for North Tongu in the Volta Region has announced an amount of GHc100,000  as emergency rent funds for victims of the Akosombo Dam Spillage.

During his campaign tour in the North Tongu constituency, the ranking member for Foreign Affairs disclosed that when he is re-elected as the Member of Parliament for the constituency, all persons who were affected by the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Akosombo dam spillage will be compensated.

He further lamented the number of persons still living in tents due to the effect of the spillage of the Akosombo dam on their properties. He described the situation as inhumane and unacceptable.

“For my next term, my priority is total resettlement and total compensation of all victims of the VRA and Akomsombo dam spillage. As we speak, GHc1360 of my beloved constituents are living in tents and it’s unacceptable, it’s inhumane and can’t be allowed. So in my next term, I will make sure there is compensation to over 12,000 persons who were affected by the Akosombo and VRA spillage.” He disclosed.

Mr Ablakwa further announced that about GHc100,000 has been put aside as an emergency rent fund to support persons who have living in tents after the damage caused by the spillage on their properties.  

“ I’m putting aside, GHc100,000 emergency rent fund for our brothers and sisters who are still living in tents but we are prioritizing the women, especially nursing mothers”.
