William Pearce-Biney’s Australian dream still on despite six-month delay

Ghanaian rugby league fullback William “Kobby” Pearce-Biney could be set to make history as the first player from the nation to compete in Australia’s Group 9 Rugby League.

Back in February, the Junee Diesels RLFC expressed interest in signing Biney, but visa expenses, flights, and pre-employment living costs presented a significant hurdle.

To bridge this financial gap, a GoFundMe campaign was launched by Australian-based William Mulligan. However, after six months, the campaign has only reached US$1,760 of the US$3,000 target.

Speaking exclusively to asaaseradio.com, Biney expressed optimism despite the slow fundraising progress.

“I’m not disappointed and yes, the team is still interested,” he revealed. “I’m not really discouraged because I know there’s still a chance there and there are opportunities there.”

The Ghanaian rugby league star extended his gratitude to the 26 individuals who have already donated towards his dream.

“They are trying to support me and I do really appreciate their donations and stuff, but [I’m] looking up to get more so that I can be able to go,” Pearce-Biney said.
