West Ham striker Michail Antonio arrives in Ghana

West Ham United striker Mchail Antonio has arrived in Ghana to visit a soccer academy “Samba Stars Academy,” in Bompata in the Ashanti region.

This is a soccer initiative targeted at helping underprivileged youths in Ghana. It is in collaboration with his friend and associate, Michael Appiason,

Antonio was welcomed by the official Ghanaian HAMMERS supporters group at the kotoka international airport on Sunday,10th November 2024.

Speaking to the media, Antonio said his decision to establish an academy in Ghana was because Ghana is blessed with lots of talents.

“It’s just obviously the talent in the pool that Ghana has and to give the motherland the opportunity to get their players or family over to the UK or worldwide playing football,” he continued.

“You see the talent with Mo [Kudus] and so many other players moving. It’s just an inspiration for me to be able to give that opportunity to players here.”

The Jamaican revealed that since the establishment of the academy, three players have been signed by English clubs, including Chelsea and Middlesbrough.

He is expected to visit the academy’s site in Bompata to engage with young players at the Samba Stars Academy, engage with the media before he finally departs for international games with his national team Jamaica.
