The vetting of ministerial nominees in Parliament was thrown into disarray following bribery allegations against the Appointments Committee.

The claims, made by activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor, suggest that some committee members accept bribes from nominees to facilitate a smoother approval process.

Appearing before Parliament today to substantiate his allegations, Barker-Vormawor triggered strong resistance from the minority caucus, who vowed not to participate in the process until their integrity is restored.

Leading the charge, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, fiercely defended the integrity of the committee, insisting that the minority would not proceed with vetting while their reputation remains in question.

“We cannot vet today. Our reputation has been battered, and until we purge ourselves of these allegations, we have no business vetting any nominee!” Annoh-Dompreh declared.

He stressed that Parliament’s image as an institution of state was being tarnished, and that minority MPs could not overlook such damaging claims.

“All we have as Members of Parliament is our reputation—that is all we have! We in the minority value our reputation, and we will not allow it to be dragged through the mud.”
