We Deserve Better- Countryman Songo Blasts Black Stars Coach Otto Addo

Renowned sports journalist Patrick Osei Agyemang, widely known as Countryman Songo, has launched a fiery critique of Black Stars coach Otto Addo, labelling him as incompetent and unfit to lead Ghana’s national football team.

His scathing remarks have reignited debates about the team’s leadership and performance following recent underwhelming results.

Speaking passionately on Newsfile on JoyNews, Songo didn’t mince words about the state of Ghana football under Addo’s management.

“A coach who can’t beat even Sudan, Niger, or Angola—you played six matches, and we didn’t win a single one. Not even one. And you tell me we have a future with this coach?” he fumed.

His frustrations stem from the Black Stars’ inability to secure a win in several fixtures against teams considered less challenging by football standards. For Songo, the lack of results is a glaring indicator of poor leadership. “Yes, we want to keep coaches for the long term, but not an incompetent coach,” he added emphatically.

Songo’s criticism taps into a broader sentiment among Ghanaians who are growing increasingly disillusioned with the team’s performance.

The once-dominant Black Stars, who have historically been a powerhouse in African football, now struggle against teams like Niger and Angola, leaving fans questioning the future of their beloved national team.

“He [Otto Addo] is not a good coach. He’s incompetent—we’ve seen it,” Songo reiterated, pointing out the coach’s inability to deliver even a single victory in critical matches.

“You played against Niger, Angola, and Sudan and couldn’t win a single match. How can you tell me that you’re good for the future?”

Songo also called for a fundamental shift in how the Ghana Football Association (GFA) appoints coaches. “If Ghana needs someone to coach the national team, we need the right coach—someone who can turn things around and transform the team,” he argued.
