Ghanaians can expect a more streamlined and effective approach to SIM card registration, according to Communications Minister-Designate, Sam George.
Speaking about the upcoming initiative, George acknowledged the challenges faced by many citizens during the previous registration process, which he described as rushed and ineffective.
“The last SIM card registration was not well thought out. It was rushed and lacked proper checks, leading to many Ghanaians losing their registered SIM cards,” he stated during an interview.
In response to these issues, the Minister-Designate assured the public that this time, the process would be more sensible and organized.
“We will ensure that there are no long queues this time around. The system will be designed to allow for easier identification of Ghanaians, minimizing the frustrations citizens experienced before,” he added.
A major concern in the previous registration was the heavy reliance on the Ghana Card for identity verification, which led to several complications.
Sam George highlighted that this time, the registration process would be more user-friendly, ensuring that no one would have to face the same hurdles as before.
Additionally, the Minister-Designate addressed the importance of ensuring that telecommunications services, particularly 4G and 5G, are seamlessly integrated with users’ devices.
“It is crucial that the rollout of 4G and 5G services is fully compatible with the devices used by Ghanaians. We are committed to making sure that these services reach their full potential and work as intended,” he said.
George also emphasized the benefits the new registration process would bring to telecommunications companies.
He noted that currently, many companies struggle with the uncertainty of whether the SIM card users are the legitimate owners. “Telecom companies will now have the means to verify who is using the SIM cards. This will help improve the overall telecommunications environment in the country,” he explained.
