The industry is cold towards me – Kwaisey Pee cries out

Veteran Highlife artist Kwaisey Pee has opened up about his struggles in the modern music industry, revealing how his efforts to rekindle his mainstream career have been met with resistance.

Speaking candidly in an exclusive interview with Doreen Avio on Hitz FM, Kwaisey Pee expressed his disappointment with the current generation of artists, attributing the pushback he faces to his outspoken and honest nature.

“The industry feels colder now,” he lamented.

“I’ve been trying to collaborate with some of these young artists, but they just ignore me. It’s like they don’t value the experience and history that people like me bring to the table.”

Kwaisey Pee, known for his silky voice and classic Highlife hits, has faced difficulties re-establishing himself after a hiatus.

According to him, his attempts to offer guidance and foster collaboration with emerging stars have been consistently dismissed.

“Some of them see my advice as criticism, but it’s not,” he explained.

“I’m only trying to share my experience to help them avoid the mistakes I’ve seen over the years.”

This disconnect, he says, has only deepened over time.

“The more I speak up, the more they distance themselves from me.

“It’s frustrating because I genuinely want to contribute to the growth of the industry.”

Kwaisey Pee’s frustration is rooted in his love for Highlife music, a genre he feels is underrepresented in today’s Ghanaian music landscape.

“Highlife is the foundation of everything we’re hearing now.

“These young artists could benefit from tapping into that history, but it’s as if they’ve forgotten where it all started,” he remarked.
