Mahama Ayariga, the newly appointed Majority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament, has vowed to use the ruling party’s commanding parliamentary majority responsibly.
In his acceptance speech on Thursday, January 23, 2025, Mr. Ayariga stressed the importance of consensus-building and fostering unity within Parliament. He echoed President John Dramani Mahama’s assurance that the majority’s significant numbers would not be abused.
“As President John Dramani Mahama has stated, these overwhelming numbers will not be misused,” Mr. Ayariga declared.
“Although we are a large majority, we will focus on inclusivity, consensus-building, and upholding the principles of probity and accountability as we work towards fulfilling the vision of our founding fathers,” he added.
Mr. Ayariga also committed to advancing democracy, promoting national unity, and ensuring balanced development throughout the country.
He acknowledged the challenges ahead but expressed optimism about the path forward.
