Takoradi tier one interchange partially opened to alleviates traffic pressure

It has been almost a month since tier one of the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange in Takoradi in the Western Region was partially opened to traffic.

Not only has this brought huge relief to travellers but also road users that live in and around Kwesimintsim and Effiakuma communities.

This is a momentous milestone in the continued construction of the project.

The opening of tier one of the three-tier Interchange seeks to improve traffic flow and also reduce congestion in the area, especially during rush hours.

The opened section of the interchange connects the Liberation Road from Market Circle to the Agona-Nkwanta highway and the PWD highway to the Agona-Nkwanta highway.

Drivers moving towards Takoradi-Accra road must take a right turn at the Takoradi Mall to join the main road since the part that joins the roundabout directly from Accra Road is still closed.

According to Urban Roads officials, the partial opening is a temporary measure to alleviate traffic pressure, while work is ongoing on the remaining sections of the project.

Motorists are being advised to exercise caution when using the new section while construction work is still ongoing.

The interchange is at the intersection of the Takoradi-Accra highway (N1) and the Takoradi Port access road and aims to improve road infrastructure and safety, reduce travel times, and improve connectivity in the region.

The interchange, when completed, will improve access to the business district and the port, enhance economic activities, and reduce travel times.

Residents say speaking with our western region, correspondent Isaac Hughes pleaded with President Akufo-Addo and the partners to remain committed to the project that was stalled for several months and to see to its completion.

Currently, the entire road network in Sekondi-Takoradi is under construction, which includes the reconstruction and dualisation of the Takoradi-Agona Nkwanta highway, the reconstruction of the Axim Road highway and the dualisation of the Takoradi-Sekondi road.
