Kwasi Amoako Atta, Member of Parliament for the Atiwa West constituency in Ghana’s Eastern Region, has spoken candidly about the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) resounding defeat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

While acknowledging the significant setback, Amoako Atta believes the loss should not spell the end for the NPP but rather serve as a rallying point for introspection and renewal.

In a conversation with reporters, the lawyer and seasoned politician expressed optimism about the party’s ability to bounce back. “This loss, as painful as it may be, is not the end of the road for us. It’s a wake-up call,” he stated.

“We need to regroup, work harder, and rebuild stronger if we are to regain the trust of Ghanaians in the next election.”

The MP’s remarks come at a time when morale within the NPP has been severely shaken, with many party faithful expressing frustration over the defeat.

However, Amoako Atta emphasized that despair and division would only compound the party’s challenges. He encouraged unity among party members and called for a pragmatic approach to strategizing for future elections.

“We must not allow this loss to divide us,” he urged. “Instead, let it push us to collaborate, strategize, and correct our course. The NPP has the capacity to bounce back, but that requires effort, humility, and a clear vision.”

Amoako Atta also addressed growing criticism from within the party, with some members attributing the loss to corruption, arrogance, and the abuse of power during the NPP’s tenure.

These allegations have sparked intense debate among the party’s rank and file, with some insisting they represent the root causes of the electoral defeat.

However, the Atiwa West MP rejected these claims, cautioning against oversimplified explanations.

“I do not subscribe to the narrative that our loss was solely due to corruption or arrogance,” he remarked.

“Those who are making such claims have the right to their opinions, but I believe our defeat was more complex than these simplistic explanations. It’s time to reflect holistically rather than assign blame.”
