SWAG urges President-Elect Mahama to increase sports funding

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has called on President-Elect John Dramani Mahama to increase sports funding and prioritise policy development as part of his administration’s broader agenda for national growth.

John Mahama is set to return to office in January 2024 after winning the 2024 general election with 6,328,397 representing 56.55% of all valid votes.

In a congratulatory statement released on Tuesday, 10 December 2024, the association highlighted key areas that require urgent attention, including increased funding for sports, grassroots development, and creating employment opportunities within the sector.

“SWAG urges the President-Elect to increase funding for sports development, develop a comprehensive sports policy, support grassroots sports development, create sports employment, and make the sports sector a major part of the economy,”-  a statement said.

“This vision has the potential to unlock the vast talents of Ghanaian youth, promote national unity, and generate significant revenue for the country.”
