Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, known popularly as General Mosquito has alleged that the Interior Minister, Henry Quartey, tried to bribe Minority Members of Parliament to pave the way for 10,000 partisan recruits into the Ghana Police Service Service.
He indicated that his offer was rejected outright by Members of Parliament on the minority side of Parliament.
Asiedu Nketia made this revelation while speaking in an interview on Accra-based Joy News.
“If we sit there and just allow this government to just select party members, 10,000 of them, train them and deploy them on election day to maintain peace at polling stations. What will declaration do to avert what is likely to happen?
So now they have the list of 10,000 people that have been shortlisted, and it is on the desk of the Interior Minister and he is trying to find a way of making sure these people get recruited into the security services.
Our MPs challenged them…at some point, the interior minister himself went to parliament to try to bribe our MPs that bring two from your constituencies so that you’d allow me to do it and they have rejected it flatly. He did this through our MPs in Parliament,” he said.
