Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah has become the second Ghanaian athlete to exit the 2024 Paris Olympic Games after failing to qualify for the women’s high jump final.
The 22-year-old, who boasted a personal best (PB) and season’s best (SB) of 1.97m, was unable to clear the automatic qualifying height of 1.97m nor was she able to clear the 1.92m she needed to make the finals.
Competing in Group A alongside world record holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh of Ukraine, Yeboah progressed through the earlier rounds with relative ease, clearing 1.83m in her second attempt and 1.88m in her third and final attempt.
However, she was unable to overcome the significant step up to 1.92m, exiting the competition in 14th place.
Despite the disappointment of her Olympic exit, Yeboah has enjoyed a stellar year, claiming gold at both the 13th African Games and the 2024 African Championships in Athletics.
Her breakthrough came at the 2024 NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships, where she set a new Ghanaian national record (NR) with a jump of 1.97m.
With an average jump of 1.87m in 2024 and a consistent improvement of 0.06m per year, Yeboah is poised to challenge for medals at future major competitions, including the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
