Elon Musk’s Starlink is set to launch its satellite internet service in Ghana by the end of August 2024, offering various service plans tailored to meet different user needs.
This marks a significant development in the country’s internet landscape, with Starlink poised to become a formidable competitor in the global market.
Starlink’s internet service relies on a network of low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites, which are capable of delivering internet speeds exceeding 100 Mbps in certain areas.
This advanced technology provides faster and more reliable connections compared to traditional satellite services.
To access Starlink’s service, customers will need to purchase the required hardware, priced at GHC5,390, with an additional shipping fee of GHC354.
Below is a breakdown of the available service plans:
Standard Plan:
- Cost: GHC770 per month
- Details: Offers unlimited data, making it ideal for household use.
Priority Plan:
- Cost: GHC1,078 per month
- Details: Includes unlimited standard data, public IP access, network priority, and priority support. This plan is suited for businesses and users with high data demands.
Mobile Plan:
- Cost: Starts at GHC1,540 per month
- Details: Targets remote workers, campers, and businesses operating across various locations. It offers unlimited mobile data within Ghana, with prices increasing based on the required level of priority data.
Mobile Priority Plan:
- Cost: Ranges from GHC4,428 per month for 50GB of data to GHC17,710 per month for 1TB of data
- Details: Designed for maritime users, emergency responders, and mobile businesses, this plan provides specialised features such as inland and ocean use data, network priority, and priority support.
Starlink’s entry into the Ghanaian market is expected to revolutionise internet access across the country, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
