Private Legal Practitioner and Senior member of the Conventions People Party (CPP), Kwame Jantuah has slammed Members of Parliament(MPs) who refused to show up at the parliament on Thursday November 7, 2024.
While speaking in an interview with TV3 monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Lawyer Jantuah asked lawmakers who cannot execute the will of the people who voted for them to quit their jobs
“It’s unfortunate that parliament, judiciary and presidency are disregarding the will of people. If you feel you have been voted into parliament and can’t do the will of the people get out” he demanded angrily.
While addressing the limbo in parliament, Lawyer Jantuah disclosed that the members of parliament do not have the will of the people at heart hence the reason why issues in parliament are not yet resolved.
He expressed disappointment in the MPs for not showing respect to Ghanaians by absenting themselves from parliament after the speaker recalled the house for a sitting to discuss urgent government business.
The lawyer also took a swipe at the president over his refusal to address the issue and to step in to solve the pending issue in parliament that is seemingly metamorphosing into a constitutional crises.
Lawyer Jantuah described the recent indefinite suspension of parliament sitting by the Speaker, the Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as unfortunate.
It would be recalled that the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, for the second time adjourned the house indefinitely on Thursday, November 7, after Members of Parliament (MPs) from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) failed to attend the session.
The Speaker announced that without the presence of the NPP MPs, the house could not meet the quorum needed to make decisions, besides, there was no business before the house, thus preventing any legislative action from taking place.
The absence of the NPP MPs from Parliament came as a setback for the anticipated emergency sitting, which had been convened to address pressing national issues.
