Parliament has experience chaotic scenes as the Members of Parliament from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) move to occupy the seats of the Majority Caucus from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
A small number of the Majority side who were in the chamber earlier moved out to await the Speaker’s directive.
Parliament has announced new measures aimed at tightening security within the premises of the House ahead of what is expected to be a “clash” or “showdown” between the Majority and Minority Caucuses.
In a press statement issued on Monday (21 October 2024) and signed by Wing Commander Fredrick Bawa (rtd), deputy marshal of Parliament, the general public has been banned from accessing the public gallery of the House until further notice.
Meanwhile, the National Peace Council have been holding discussions behind the scenes to help calm the situation.
