Senior Pastor Kwadwo Boateng Bempah of Holy Hill Chapel, Assemblies of God, Ghana, has called on the incoming government led by John Dramani Mahama to prioritize economic recovery over political witch-hunts.
In a passionate statement, Pastor Bempah, who is not affiliated with any political party, shared his frustration with the direction of leadership in Ghana.
“We voted them out because they wanted to make people poor,” Pastor Bempah said in a public address, referencing the previous administration’s economic policies, which many Ghanaians felt worsened their financial struggles.
“If the next government also tries it… I am not a politician or a member of any party. But anybody whose leadership does not end up with the well-being of the people will wake up and laugh at the wrong side of their mouth.”
The pastor went on to express his concerns about the current administration’s focus on prosecuting alleged wrongdoers from the past government rather than addressing the pressing needs of the economy.
“I have seen the new people also making ‘Let’s catch people’ efforts. My friend, take your time. We didn’t vote for you to be catching people,” he remarked, criticizing the government’s current approach of pursuing alleged corrupt officials instead of focusing on economic recovery.
While Pastor Bempah acknowledged that accountability is important, he emphasized that it should not come at the expense of economic progress.
“We want the economy well. That is why you said you want to come to power. Catching somebody will not bring money into my pocket, so stay focused,” he urged.
“Bring the dollar down; you said you will do it; do it now,” Pastor Bempah added, referencing the government’s pledge to stabilize the cedi and tackle inflation.
