Party footsoldiers deserved appointments, qualifications didn’t matter – Assafuah

Vincent Ekow Assafuah has shared some intriguing comments on Hello FM monitored by MyNewsGH, openly criticizing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for neglecting its loyal grassroots supporters.

According to him, party members who worked tirelessly to secure electoral victories should have been rewarded with government appointments, regardless of their formal qualifications.

“When a party wins power, it must take care of its own,” Assafuah emphasized. “You can’t let committed foot soldiers struggle while outsiders enjoy the benefits. That is how you create discontent within your base.”

He believes that this failure to prioritize party loyalists significantly contributed to the NPP’s defeat in the last election.

Comparing the party’s approach to that of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Assafuah praised former President John Mahama’s willingness to place party members in key positions, even if they lacked the necessary credentials.

“Take Alexander Kwaku Asafo-Agyei, the Registrar of the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat under Mahama,” he pointed out.

“Do you think he is ‘too’ qualified for the role? But see, Mahama had the courage to appoint him.

“Meanwhile, our party hesitated and lost the trust of those who sacrificed for our victory.”
