The Ghanaian Parliament has taken decisive steps to strengthen security measures in a bid to prevent suspended Members of Parliament (MPs) from accessing the chamber.
Following a recent brawl during a vetting session of the Appointments Committee, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin announced the suspension of four MPs for two weeks.
The suspended MPs are Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Alhassan Tampuli, and Jerry Ahmed Shaib.
In response to this development, Parliament’s leadership has collaborated with security agencies to enhance protective protocols around the parliamentary building.
The goal is to ensure that only duly authorized members can access the chamber during sittings.
The decision follows the suspension of the MPs after their involvement in a physical altercation during the vetting of a presidential nominee.
The leadership emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline and order in the legislature.
