Maame Ama Pratt has shared how she discovered her passion for advocacy from a young age, recalling moments that shaped her into the voice she is today.
Speaking on GBC’s Breakfast Show monitored by MyNewsGH, she reflected on her early experiences in leadership and how they gradually molded her confidence.
“I’ve always had it. I’ve always been the class prefect,” she said, emphasizing that her ability to speak up was never forced but something that came naturally.
She recounted an instance in secondary school when students were asked to lead a prayer at an assembly, and the silence was overwhelming.
“I just prayed. I was in Form One. You know how it is when you go to secondary school—Form One, you don’t exist.
There’s a deliberate process to literally break you and then sort of put you back together. But even in that breaking point, I still managed to find a voice to pray.”
According to her, this moment set her on a path that led to more leadership roles, eventually making her the first Form One student to hold an executive position in the Students’ Union.
“It wasn’t planned. I just heard ‘pray,’ and the silence was too long, too uncomfortable, so I prayed. And that then led to having a voice,” she recalled.
