Office of the Vice-President denies involvement in demolition of properties in Cantonments and Labone

The Office of the Vice-President has categorically denied any involvement in the alleged unlawful demolition of properties in the Cantonments and Labone areas of Accra.

According to a statement issued on 6 September 2024, by Dr Gideon Boako, spokesperson for the vice-president, the office has become aware of news reports suggesting that individuals claiming to represent the vice-president were responsible for the demolitions.

The statement clarified that neither the vice-president nor his office holds any interest in properties within the Cantonments and Labone areas where the alleged incidents occurred.

The statement said no officer, agent, or representative from the Vice President’s office has been directed to engage in or interfere with any matters related to land or property in these areas.

The Vice President’s Office has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the police hierarchy to collaborate with the victims of the demolition to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The statement also urged the public to disregard any information suggesting that the Vice President’s Office was involved in the incident, labeling such claims as false.

The release concluded by reiterating the vice-president’s commitment to transparency and urging the public to treat all contrary information as misinformation.
