The Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations into an alleged attack on three Catholic missionary priests in Nkwanta, Oti Region, by some youth.

Addressing the media on Friday in Accra, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs, disclosed that the attack was the only incident reported in the last 24 hours, as the rest of the country remained largely peaceful.

“The police are actively investigating the attack on the priests and are making efforts to arrest the perpetrators to ensure they face justice,” she said.

ACP Ansah-Akrofi assured the public that the Ghana Police Service was committed to maintaining law and order, providing security, and fostering a safe environment for all citizens.

She also provided updates on election-related security measures, noting that the collation of outstanding results from four constituencies in the Eastern Region had been relocated to the National Police Training School for enhanced security.

This process, she said, was ongoing and being monitored closely.

Touching on the status of suspects arrested for various offenses, she confirmed that 123 individuals had been apprehended and were undergoing legal processes.

Four of the suspects arrested within the last 24 hours were also being processed.

ACP Ansah-Akrofi reiterated the police’s commitment to ensuring peace, security, and the rule of law, thanking the public for their cooperation and support.
