A Big Shock to Us – Miracles Aboagye Reflects on Mahama’s Landslide Victory

The 2024 general elections brought a stunning outcome, with President-elect John Dramani Mahama securing a massive victory over the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The results, which saw Mahama win by a margin of 1.6 million votes, left many in shock, particularly within the NPP, who had hoped for a closer race.

Reflecting on the unexpected turn of events, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a spokesperson for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, recalled the shocking moment on election night. “You recall in 2016 when we won by a million.

“We thought it was historic. In fact, people thought it’s not something anybody could repeat – but to realize around 3:00 am – 3:30 am, that we’re actually losing by not just a million but 1.6 million, it was a big shock,” he admitted during an appearance on Newsfile on JoyNews.

The unexpected shift in results was a bitter blow for the NPP, who had initially believed they were on track for another victory.

However, Aboagye was quick to acknowledge Mahama’s decisive win, demonstrating a level of professionalism in the face of disappointment.

“I want to congratulate President-elect John Dramani Mahama and the NDC for their hard-fought campaign,” Aboagye said.

“Winning an election is never easy, and I believe Mahama’s team worked tirelessly to secure this win. It’s important to recognize the effort that goes into running such a long campaign, and now that the results are in, we must respect the people’s choice.”
