All payments, recruitment have received statutory approval, says government

The government’s transition team has urged the public to disregard any statements purporting to indicate that the transition committee has decided to refer all ongoing payments and recruitment to the joint transition team.

During its second meeting on 13 December 2024, at the Accra International Conference Centre, it decided that any specific allegation of illegality about particular payments or recruitment should be brought to the attention of the transition committee to decide on it.

It said the government’s term expired on the midnight of 6 January, 2025, noting that all recruitment processes and payments had received the approval of the relevant statutory bodies and had not been proven to be illegal.

This was in a statement issued by Fatimatu Abubakar, the Spokesperson of the Government Transition Team, and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Friday.

It reiterated government’s commitment to a seamless transitional process to passing the baton to the in-coming government on 7 January, 2025.

“Kindly disregard any statements purporting to indicate that the Committee has taken a decision to the effect that all ongoing payments and recruitment should be referred to the transition team as same does not reflect the records of the meeting,” the statement said.

The meeting also arrived at the following decisions:

  • That additional six sub-committees should be constituted, namely; Finance and Economy, Energy and Natural Resources, Legal and Governance, Infrastructure, Interior/Public Safety, and Social Sector.
  • It said membership of the various sub-committees would comprise three nominees each from the out-going and in-coming governments, with the Head of Civil Service, Head of Local Government Service and Cabinet Secretary joining any committee when their services were required.
  • The meeting directed that handing over notes should be delivered to sub-committee chairs to commence work immediately.

The initial work is expected to be delivered within one week, the statement said.

Additionally, out-going ministers, heads of agencies and technical staff would be invited to assist the sub-committees when handing over notes submitted by their respective sectors are being discussed.
