EC halts recollation of results at Tesano Police Training Depot

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the suspension of the re-collation of Presidential and Parliamentary elections’ results, citing disruptions by political party supporters as the primary cause.

The process, which was underway at the Tesano Police Depot, became necessary due to constituencies whose collation did not align with the legal provisions under Constitutional Instrument (C.I.) 127 or where results on Election Day remained incomplete.

These irregularities resulted in delays and subsequent recollation efforts, now put on hold until further notice.

According to a press release signed by Samuel Tettey, deputy chairman of operations, disruptions of the collation process on Election Day and the days following forced the Commission to relocate the recollation exercise to the Tesano Police Training Depot.

The Electoral Commission emphasized that this relocation had been agreed upon with the Inspector General of Police and his team to ensure a smooth process.

Tettey further stated that agents of the various political parties observed proceedings, leading to the successful collation and declaration of results for the Fanteakwa North, Akwatia, and Suhum constituencies.

The Electoral Commission has urged all stakeholders, including political parties and the general public, to collaborate with them in fulfilling their mandate of ensuring credible elections.

The statement reaffirms the Commission’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and integrity in the electoral process while working to address the current challenges.
