Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah says the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) significant strides in the education sector remain unprecedented in Ghana’s history.
He particularly highlights initiatives like Free SHS, STEM promotion, and TVET, as some of the initiatives spearheaded by the Akufo-Addo administration in the last few years.
Mr Osei-Mensah made these remarks during the inauguration of the Sewua STEM Academy in the Ashanti Region on Thursday (21 November). He further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to aligning its educational reforms with global priorities, especially in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), to drive national progress.
“The current government has achieved remarkable success in education, introducing policies like Free SHS and promoting ICT, TVET, and STEM education for the benefit of the youth. It is unfortunate that some undermine these successes, but in this digital age, Ghana is fortunate to have a government focused on the future of our youth through STEM,” Osei Mensah stated.
The Sewua STEM Academy, one of 89 educational facilities inaugurated across the country, aims to strengthen STEM education at both basic and high school levels. The state-of-the-art facility includes a three-story academic block, along with additional structures to enhance the curriculum.
The Regional Minister used the occasion to urge Ghanaians to vote massively for NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia “to continue the good work and bring more progress to the country”.
The inauguration received widespread praise from local residents and leaders, including Nana Kwaku Sarkodie II, the Chief of Sewua, who hailed the project as a major boost for education in the area. He also acknowledged Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum’s contributions, recognizing him as one of Ghana’s finest education ministers.
