The Ghana Audit Service (GAS) has unveiled a state-of-the-art district office in Dodowa, Greater Accra Region, marking a significant step in its drive to enhance public accountability and service delivery.
The new facility, inaugurated on Wednesday (20 November), is part of the service’s broader plan to decentralise operations and strengthen oversight of public resources.
Designed to streamline auditing processes, the office will serve as a vital hub for monitoring government expenditures and promoting transparency across the region.
Equipped to house a dedicated team of auditors, the Dodowa office is expected to respond swiftly to the rising demand for auditing services.
It aims to ensure that public funds are spent in compliance with legal and regulatory standards, reinforcing GAS’s commitment to protecting the public purse.
Speaking at the ceremony, Greater Accra Regional Minister Daniel Titus-Glover highlighted the importance of decentralising audit operations, stating that the office follows a series of efforts by GAS to decentralise its operations and extend its reach to more regions in order to better monitor and assess the use of public resources across the nation.
Auditor-General Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu also emphasised the significance of the facility, describing it as a critical investment in accountability.
The Dodowa office is one of several new additions to the Audit Service’s infrastructure. So far, three regional offices have been completed, with 15 district offices in the pipeline.
These efforts are part of an overarching strategy to modernise operations and enhance the service’s capacity to hold government agencies accountable.
