The Ministry of Health has announced the upcoming commissioning of an ultra-modern urology and nephrology center at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
The new facility, which includes 101 beds, 70 dedicated to urology and 51 to nephrology, is expected to significantly reduce the strain on dialysis services across the country.
Currently, patients with kidney issues often face extended waiting periods for dialysis due to limited facilities and resources.
Speaking at a press briefing today the 18 September, the sector minister, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye highlighted the urgent need for specialized dialysis care.
”Yes, so the centre has a capacity of 101 beds. 70 beds for urology, 51 beds for nephrology and the nephrology will be dialysis. So, hopefully, in the next few months, all this noise about dialysis space, we don’t have the machines is going to be a thing of the past. We are going to have 51 beds for dialysis, ultramodern sustainable machines” Dr Okoe Boye said.
Boye added that the facility will have two dedicated theatres for urology, which will be used for specialised procedures.
“So urology are going to have two theatres for themselves. 24 hours, seven days a week. So this is investment into the life of the ordinary Ghanaian. The old man walking the streets of Tsuibleoo in Teshie who has prostate issues. When he walks to Korle-bu and now enters a new facility, his prostate is done with. When he walks out, he knows that Ghana is going somewhere.” the minister added.
