Director of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe has condemned the police for their actions during the clash at Mamobi by some NDC and the NPP members.
During a panel interview on TV3’s NewDay monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Lawyer Edudzie Tamakloe stated that the statement released by the police which stated that the police was currently on manhunt for the perpetrators is a terrible statement.
According to the lawyer, the statement of the police shows that they have taken sides which is against their rules of natural justice.
“I found the police statement as extremely terrible. IGP Dampare is not doing the Ghana Police any good with your posturing. In terms of moral crisis, the person who maintains neutrality decided to side with the wrongdoer”, he said.
Background
Two persons were shot on Sunday during an ordinary weekend political campaign stroll in Mamobi, Accra, and four more individuals were injured.
After what was first planned to be a peaceful gathering, there was a fight between New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) members.
As part of their campaign operations, both parties usually organize a keep-fit walk every weekend. However, this particular walk ended abruptly when a group of motorbike riders from one side came into contact with the supporters from the other side.
Witnesses stated that a dispute that started out verbally swiftly turned physical.
In response to the disturbance between members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Nima, a suburb of Accra, the country’s capital, the Ghana Police Service has begun a statewide manhunt for those involved.
On Sunday, October 13, 2024, the police assured everyone that peace had returned to the neighbourhood in a statement they released.
Nine(9) people were hurt in the altercation between representatives of the two main political parties.
