Love your party but remain human – Peace and Governance Expert to Ghanaian youth

A Peace and Governance Expert Justice Agbezuge has advised Ghanaian youth to avoid making enemies of their political enemies because of their loyalty to their political parties.

He explained that while being loyal to a political party is not out of place, seeing and treating political opponents as enemies is unacceptable given that things – loyalties – could change the future.

He stressed that the youth are free to love their political parties but they must be considerate and humane in demonstrating their love.

“Dear young person,

Your passion for politics is admirable. Even of significance is your loyalty to your party. As a student of politics and one with over 12 years experience working on politics and electoral support on the continent, I know firsthand that some degree of party loyalty is good for the predictability of the political system.

However, there can be an inherent danger. You see anyone who does not support your party as an enemy. It is sometimes sad to see friends, family and colleagues, tear eachother apart just because of politics. Young people use acerbic and foul language at the least provocation. That respectfully is not the way to go. Think twice,” he cautioned in a statement on social media.

He cited examples of notable persons in Ghanaian politics who have shifted their loyalties to reinforce his view that the future is unknown and the youth must act with caution.

“Love your party. But remain human. After all we were humans before party. We can disagree without been vile,” he concluded.
