Let the public see the process: Barker-Vormawor advocates for televised collation

Lawyer and activist, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, is advocating for a more open and accessible process, particularly during the collation and re-collation of votes.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews, Barker-Vormawor addressed the growing concerns about the level of security and transparency surrounding the vote-counting process.

“We’ve seen so much police presence deployed at collation centers, and if we anticipate that people are going to be there, the solution shouldn’t just be to securitize the process with overwhelming police numbers,” Barker-Vormawor said, expressing concern over the growing militarization of election centers.

While security is crucial, he stressed that the focus should also be on transparency to build public trust in the system.

Barker-Vormawor suggested that a more innovative approach to ensuring transparency and accessibility is needed.

“Why not set up giant screens for people to watch what is happening in the collation process? Why not televise the process and invite the public into it to demystify what is happening?” he proposed.

His suggestion aims to provide greater visibility and accountability, allowing citizens to witness the process in real time, thus reducing any suspicions of tampering or manipulation.
