The Member of Parliament for Sefwi-Wiawso, Kwaku Afriyie, has said he did not ask the Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annor-Dompreh to apologise on his behalf to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.
Bagbin, on Monday (22 July), directed the Marshal to walk Afriyie out of the House over a comment deemed as disrespectful.
Following the nomination of two justices to the Supreme Court by President Akufo-Addo, Speaker Bagbin urged the House to look into the issues of the full complement of the Supreme Court when the appointments committee presented its report on the nominees to the plenary for consideration.
However, the MP for Sefwi Wiawso, Kwaku Afriyie, said it does not lie with the Speaker to make such prejudicial comments.
Out of fury, the Speaker ordered the Marshal to take the MP out of the House.
However, speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (23 July), Afriyie said, “My leader, Annor-Dompreh, had not communicated with me even as I speak to you now. So I have not sent anybody to apologise for and on my behalf”.
“So even if it is their opinion that the party as a whole want to apologise, I don’t take that right from them, they can do that, but I as a person representing the good people of Sefwi-Wiaso, I haven’t sent anybody to go and apologise,” Afriyie told host Kwaku Nhyira-Addo.
