Ghanaian swimmer Harry Stacey will make his Olympic debut on Tuesday (30 July) as he competes in the men’s 100m freestyle at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The 24-year-old will dive into the pool at the Paris La Défense Arena in heat four, facing off against competitors from Cyprus, Senegal, Saint Lucia, Uruguay, the United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka, and Mongolia.
Stacey, Ghana’s top-ranked male swimmer according to the World Aquatics Point Table, secured his place at the Games through one of the country’s two wildcard slots. Carrying the hopes of a nation, he will be looking to make a splash on the world stage.
The swimmer impressed at the 16th Africa Aquatics Swimming and Open Water Championships in Luanda, Angola, last April, reaching the final of the men’s 100m freestyle.
He clocked a time of 51.26 seconds in the heats to secure third place before claiming bronze in the final with a time of 50.67 seconds.
Regardless of the outcome, Stacey has already made Ghana proud by reaching this level of competition. His performance on Tuesday will be a testament to his hard work and dedication.
