Founder of McDan Group of Companies, Daniel McKorley has revealed that but for gambling, he would have sponsored the Ghana Premier League.

The country's top flight is currently without a headline sponsor after betPawa terminated its three-year deal with the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

There have been reports about gambling and match-fixing in the Premier League over the years. This has hindered the top flight to secure sponsorships from the corporate world.

However, speaking on Asempa FM as monitored by Footballghana.com, the award-winning business mogul expressed his will to inject money into the Premier League but also raised concern about the level of gambling that has engulfed the game.

He however called on authorities to sanitize the game to be able to attract sponsorships.

"I can sponsor the Ghana Premier League but the gambling is too much," McKorley said.

"The match-fixing is collapsing our game. You will watch a game and how a goalkeeper will concede a goal is funny and it is because someone must win a bet.

"Football is a nice game but our players cannot play for years. It is about time we sanitise our game," he added.

Meanwhile, Kurt Okraku, who is the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in a media engagement hinted that they are working tirelessly to secure a new headline sponsor for the Ghana Premier League.

The 2024/25 football season has been scheduled to kick off on September 6.
