The French ambassador to Ghana, Jule Armand Aniambossou, said France is committed to improving the music industry in Ghana through entrepreneurship and copyright protection.
“The French embassy is collaborating with Ghanaian musician and the creative art agency to strengthen business viability of the industry through improved remuneration and artist protection. The copyright is at the heart of this challenge,” Aniambossou said.
The ambassador was speaking at the commemoration of the French National Day which is 14 July 2024.
The ambassador also said that President Emmanuel Macron, is keen on redefining its relationship with African countries and making significant investment in entrepreneurial abilities of creatives on the continent.
“We will work with some Ghanaians in the creative space to help identify talented creatives and turn them into entrepreneurs through capacity building workshops. We also dole out money to those who have businesses but lack the needed funds to keep it thriving,” he added.
The French National Day, or Bastille Day, commemorates the 225th anniversary of the storming of the Bastille. The event, which occurred on 14 July 1789, symbolises the fight of the French people against oppression.
It celebrates the values of liberty, equality, and fraternity, and has since become the motto of the French Republic. It serves as a reminder of the power of collective action and the pursuit of freedom and democracy.
President Akufo-Addo said the importance of 14 July transcends the borders of France, emphasising the quest of man for freedom and justice. The president recognised the contribution of the French government to Ghana in the areas of infrastructure development, health, and education.
The event was attended by President Akufo-Addo, the Ghana Olympic Committee, former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, ministers of state and members of the diplomatic corps.
The event also focused on the Paris Olympics Games, which open in France on 26 July.
