A young farmer in the Oti Region has narrowly survived a gun attack while on his way to the farm.
Solomon Amenu, 24, was ambushed by unidentified gunmen on Saturday (26 October), as he and a companion travelled by motorbike through the Nkwanta South Municipality.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of the morning, left Amenu with multiple gunshot wounds to his right arm.
Despite his injuries, he managed to flee the scene, eventually making his way home before being taken to St. Joseph Catholic Hospital in Nkwanta, where he is now recovering.
Recalling the harrowing experience from his hospital bed, Amenu told reporters that the assailants opened fire without warning.
The incident has ignited fear and frustration among local residents, who have witnessed a troubling spike in violent incidents.
This is the second attack on a farmer within a week in the municipality, fuelling growing concerns about security, especially for those in remote farming communities.
Community members are calling on local authorities and the police to step up their presence and protect rural residents, particularly farmers, who are increasingly vulnerable to such attacks. So far, no arrests have been made.
