Rugby League 9s kicks off 6 October

The Rugby League Federation Ghana’s (RLFG) Rugby League 9s tournament is set to kick off on Sunday (6 October) at the University of Ghana (UG) Rugby Stadium.

The month-long tournament will take place every Sunday throughout October, featuring five teams: the Nungua Tigers, Bulls, Accra Majestics, Accra Panthers, and the UG Titans as they look to unseat defending champions, the Ghana Skolars, in what promises to be a thrilling display of rugby league action.

Rugby League 9s offers a fast-paced alternative to the traditional 13-a-side game, with each match fielding nine players per team and lasting just 18 minutes. This condensed format guarantees high-octane entertainment for players and fans alike.

In an exciting addition, the RLFG has partnered with the Esports Association, Ghana (EAG), to host a virtual rugby league tournament on Sunday (27 October), merging the physical and digital worlds of sport.

This year’s event also comes with a cause. According to the General Manager of the RLFG, Jafaru Awudu Mustapha, the federation will use the tournament to promote awareness of breast and prostate cancer.

With action on both the field and the screen, this year’s Rugby League 9s tournament is set to make an impact beyond sport.
