CAF fines Libya US$50,000, awards 3-0 victory to Nigeria

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined the Libyan Football Federation $50,000 for breaking multiple regulations. The penalty must be paid within 60 days.

Additionally, Libya’s scheduled Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Nigeria has been cancelled, with CAF awarding Nigeria a 3-0 win by default.

The fine follows an investigation by CAF into the abrupt cancellation of the match between the two countries.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe addressed the situation, stating that strict action would be taken if the Libyan Federation was found guilty of improper conduct toward the Nigerian team.

“We are proud of those nations that treat visiting teams with the respect and dignity they deserve. But if rules are violated, we will act,” Motsepe stated.

Though Motsepe did not provide specific details about the Nigeria-Libya incident, he confirmed that a thorough investigation was underway. He assured that appropriate measures would follow based on the findings.
