The Kayayei Skills Empowerment Programme, initiated by Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia, celebrated the graduation of its first cohorts of 600 young women on Thursday (20 June).

The programme, aimed at equipping Kayayei women with vocational skills, is a step towards their economic empowerment and self-sufficiency.

Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), commended the graduates for their dedication and outstanding performance.

The training covered six specialised areas: soap and detergent making, baking, beads and jewellery making, décor, pedicure and manicure and make-up artistry.

Graduates received starter packs to help them start their businesses, along with a GHC1000 stipend.

“With the skills you have acquired, you have the power to shape your destiny,” Nkansah told the graduates.

He also expressed gratitude to all partners and stakeholders who contributed to the success of the programme.

He added that the NEIP will continue to provide support and monitor the progress of the graduates, ensuring they thrive in their new ventures. The next cohort of trainees is expected to begin training later this year.
