Hon John Abdulai Jinapor has launched a blistering critique against the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, accusing them of campaigning against the very policies they implemented.

Speaking on Oyerepa TV monitored by MyNewGh.com, the outspoken National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwart described the NPP as “the most absurd party,” highlighting what he considers a glaring contradiction in their approach to addressing Ghana’s economic challenges.

Jinapor took specific aim at the e-levy, a tax policy introduced by the NPP that has been widely criticized for its impact on the average Ghanaian.

He questioned the sincerity of Dr. Bawumia, who is now promising to abolish the e-levy as part of his campaign platform. “How does someone champion a policy that burdens Ghanaians and then turn around to campaign against it?

This is not leadership; it’s hypocrisy,” Jinapor remarked. His comments echo the frustration of many Ghanaians who feel overburdened by policies they believe have worsened their living conditions.

The former Deputy Minister of Energy also expressed concern over the broader economic mismanagement under the NPP, arguing that it has crippled essential sectors such as health, agriculture, and education.

He drew attention to how critical programs like the Free Senior High School (SHS) initiative are suffering because of the country’s economic instability.

“An economy in turmoil cannot support a strong healthcare system, education reforms, or agriculture. It’s like trying to grow a tree in barren soil—it simply won’t work,” Jinapor explained.

He also raised questions about Dr. Bawumia’s credibility, given his central role in the current administration. Jinapor criticized Bawumia’s record, stating that the Vice President’s much-touted promises of economic stability and digital innovation have fallen short. “Bawumia has been part of this government from day one.

“If he couldn’t prevent the economic mess we’re in, how does he expect Ghanaians to believe he can fix it now?” he asked, expressing disbelief at what he sees as a contradiction in the NPP’s messaging.
