National Cathedral funds could have built 18 Hospitals – Beatrice Annan

Lawyer Beatrice Annan, the Deputy Spokesperson for the John Mahama Campaign, has claimed that the funds allocated to the National Cathedral project he describes a s a “hole” could have financed the construction of 18 ‘Agenda 111’ hospitals.

During her appearance on TV3’s NewDay show monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the private legal practitioner reflected on the NPP’s criticism of the NDC regarding the alleged inflation of costs associated with the Ridge Hospital project.

“The total expenditure for the Ridge Hospital was $250 million. At that time, the NPP accused the NDC of exaggerating the construction costs. I recall Dr. Bawumia stating that they could have built a Dubai Medical City.

Yet, now they have failed to complete Phase two of the Ridge Hospital while being prepared to invest GHc312 million, which has turned into a swimming pool,” she noted.

In her comparison of the National Cathedral’s expenses with those of the University of Ghana Medical Center, which was established under John Mahama and features over 600 beds, Annan pointed out that the cost of the Cathedral exceeds that of the NPP’s investments in the National Cathedral.

She emphasized that the financial commitment to the Cathedral surpasses the investments made in the Ghana Maritime Hospital, the Bank of Ghana Hospital, the Dodowa Hospital, and other healthcare facilities constructed to date.

“You claimed you aimed to operationalize Agenda 111, but do you realize that the expenditure on the National Cathedral hole could have funded and activated 18 ‘Agenda 111’ hospitals?

According to their own estimates, each Agenda 111 hospital would cost $17 million. Yet, here we are with nothing to show for it,” Beatrice expressed with concern.
