Atta Akyea’s “Bawumia doesn’t drink alcohol” comment angers NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been angered by comments by Abuakwa South Member of Parliament about his political party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Atta Akyea while addressing a charged crowd of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters at a mini rally on August 27, 2024 said Ghanaians are blessed to have an incoming president who does not drink alcohol.

He described the Vice President as a man of wisdom born from a man of wisdom.

“Ghana is blessed to have an economist who is calm and knowledgeable and a wise man who does not drink alcohol.

God has blessed us. Ghana is about to get a president with wisdom. A president who is wise enough and does not drink alcohol,” he said.

But these comments from Atta Akyea did not sit well with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“For the record, H.E. John Dramani Mahama is not a drunkard. He is a distinguished statesman whose commitment to the well-being and progress of Ghana is unquestionable. His track record in public service and his enduring leadership qualities speak for themselves,” Kwetey stated.

They called for a retraction failure of which they will take steps to address.

“We demand an immediate retraction and apology from Hon Atta Akyea for his unprovoked attack on the person of H.E. John Dramani Mahama.

“Failure to do so will leave the NDC with no choice but to explore all available avenues to defend the integrity and reputation of our Flagbearer,” the statement read.
