AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: NSA confident Black Stars will host Sudan in Ghana

The National Sports Authority (NSA) is confident Ghana’s African Cup of Nations 2025 qualifier against Sudan in October will be held in the country, the the board chair of the NSA, Seth Panwum has said.

Ghana is racing against time to select a venue for the Black Stars’ next home game following CAF’s decision to withdraw its conditional approval for the Baba Yara Stadium.

The Black Stars take on Sudan on 11 October in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with Togo, Nigeria, or Côte d’Ivoire as possible destinations.

However, Panwum insists that alternative venues in Ghana, such as Sekondi-Takoradi, Accra, and Cape Coast sports stadiums, are now ready for inspection and capable of hosting the game.

“We’ve written to CAF that, they have ruled out Kumasi, but they didn’t come back to look at Cape Coast and Accra sports stadiums,” he told told the Parliamentary Select Committee for Sports, Culture, and Tourism on Wednesday (25, September 2024).

Panwum urged the authorities to send representatives to verify the readiness of these venues, expressing confidence that the games will proceed in Ghana if the venues are approved.

“Cape Coast Stadium is ready. Accra [Sports Stadium] is ready. This is where we are now. So we are waiting for them [CAF] to come and I can assure you that if they come, the game will be played in Ghana,” he said.
