2024 U20 Women’s World Cup: Black Princesses want to advance from group stage on merit – Yussif Basigi
Black Princesses head coach Yussif Basigi has stated that his team is focused on advancing from the group stage of the 2024 U20 Women’s World Cup based on merit.Basigi made these comments after learning that the best third-placed teams will also advance to the Round of 16.Ghana’s U20 women’s national team will face Japan on Thursday night at the Estadio Metropolitano de Techo in Colombia.The Black Princesses fell 2-1 to Austria in their Group E opener on Monday, while Japan cruised to a 7-0 victory over New Zealand."Maybe a draw would have given us, I would say, motivation to play. However, we have nothing to complain about if we are playing against Japan. The only thing is to ensure that we beat them.“It is a hope, but we still want to go on merit. Even though third place is also a merit, we still want to fight hard and get a respectable position in our group."Ghana has yet to advance past the group stage in six previous attempts at the U20 Women’s World Cup.In the other Group E fixture, Austria will face New Zealand at 1 a.m. on Friday.
