In an address at a thanksgiving mass held in his honour on 18 January 2025 at Accra Ridge Church, Former President Nana Akufo-Addo reflected on his legacy as he bid farewell to office.
With a sense of pride and fulfilment, Akufo-Addo spoke about the impact of his two terms in office, detailing the progress made in key areas that will shape Ghana’s future for years to come.
“The records of his two governments in the areas of educational reform, healthcare delivery, industrial development, agricultural expansion, infrastructural development, digital transformation, and environmental protection are all now matters of history and he is content to await and abide by the verdict of history on their benefits,” Akufo-Addo remarked, underscoring his belief in the long-term impact of the policies his administration championed.
He acknowledged that while immediate results can be seen, it is history that will provide the ultimate judgment on whether his efforts have borne fruit.
In his address, Akufo-Addo also highlighted some of the other key achievements during his tenure.
He pointed to Ghana’s success in strengthening national security, especially in the face of the rising threat of terrorism in the Sahelian Region, as well as the revival of the economy after the challenges it faced.
“The unleashing of Ghana’s tourism potential, the enhancement of Ghana’s global image, the contribution to the integration of ECOWAS and Africa, and the engagement of the global African community,” were also notable accomplishments that the former president cited, showcasing his administration’s broad focus on national and international development.
While acknowledging that no administration is without its critics, Akufo-Addo maintained a firm stance on his contributions. “Despite what the naysayers say, I did my best for Ghana,” he stated, expressing his satisfaction with the efforts and achievements of his presidency.
